There was a time when a fully custom website made perfect sense for us. But as we've evolved, so have our needs.
For years, our website was built and maintained the traditional way, hardcoded by developers and updated through Git workflows. It gave us total control over every pixel, but that control came at a cost.
As our business grew and our needs evolved, the developer-heavy setup became a bit of a bottleneck.
We needed a platform that could support faster iteration, empower more of our team and still deliver the performance and flexibility we’d come to expect. That’s why we made the decision to replatform to Webflow.
Here’s a quick look at why we made the move, and what we’ve gained by switching.
1. Performance and speed matters more than ever
Performance has always been important to us, and our custom-built site delivered on that. But over time, managing page speed became increasingly manual; asset optimisation, image compression, and code audits were all tasks that demanded developer time and attention.
With Webflow, we get fast-loading pages by default. Its clean code output and global CDN mean less time sweating the small stuff and more time focused on experience.
It also means our designers can now make quick changes that directly impact performance, like optimising layouts, replacing heavy assets, or fine-tuning interactions, without needing to wait for development availability. That ability to respond quickly has helped us stay agile and maintain a faster, more responsive site.
2. Visual control without compromise
Before, small design changes needed to go through our developers, sometimes through code branches and staging deployments. It was reliable, but slow.
Now, our marketing team can also create and publish new pages visually, without code. Webflow gives us the creative freedom to move fast while still keeping design systems and brand consistency intact. Developers can focus on solving bigger challenges instead of making margin tweaks.
3. A CMS that doesn’t require development hours
We previously had no traditional CMS, and any content changes meant opening a code editor or logging tickets. It worked when things were simple, but as our content needs grew, so did our need for a swifter way of working.
Webflow’s CMS is a leap forward. We can create flexible content structures, empower team members to publish without code, and iterate much faster without worrying about breaking anything.
4. Less code, less overhead
With a custom-built site, everything was on us, from animations to forms and metadata. That meant lots of manual development and regular maintenance just to keep things functional.
Webflow simplifies all of this. Many of the features we used to hand-code are now built in, which reduces complexity, improves reliability and makes life easier for everyone involved.
5. Designers can make changes without handoff
One of the biggest frustrations with our previous setup was that even simple updates, changing spacing, font sizes, or responsiveness tweaks, meant writing tickets and waiting on dev availability.
Webflow flips that dynamic. Designers can now make real-time changes directly on the site, without having to touch code. The ability to work this way has made design decisions smarter and more user-focused. It’s helped the whole team better understand how a site is built, and how to build it better to improve user experience.
6. Security and peace of mind
A hardcoded site put the burden of security squarely on our shoulders. That meant configuring SSL, running backups, maintaining servers and ensuring everything stays patched and protected.
With Webflow, that’s all handled for us. It’s hosted on AWS, includes automatic SSL, regular backups, and enterprise-grade security features, so we can focus on what we’re building, not keeping the lights on.
7. A better foundation for the future
At the heart of our replatforming decision was a desire to scale, not just traffic, but our workflows. We needed a site that could grow with us, not hold us back.
Webflow gives us a better foundation: one that’s fast, flexible, and built for collaboration. It empowers designers, marketers, and developers to work together in one environment, and that’s changed how we build, how we think and how we move.
Everyone benefits
Replatforming from a hardcoded site to Webflow wasn’t a small decision. But it’s one that’s already paying off. We’ve reduced complexity, improved speed, and empowered more of our team to contribute to the website experience.
