#MemoryWalk – Walking for Alzheimer’s

On Saturday 23rd of September, we joined over 4,000 people, walking either 2k or 6k through the grounds of Temple Newsam, in support of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Dementia is an illness that affects so many lives and is affecting one of our colleagues’ immediate family right now.

The weather was mild and the rain held off, the sea of blue Alzheimer Society t-shirts worn by us all lit up the morning. As we walked it became apparent just how many people were being affected, many people wore badges on their backs, handwritten with the names of the people they were walking for. Hearing stories of loved ones who are suffering and the impact it has on families is very grounding.

Looking up and down the straight, undulating paths around Temple Newsam the trail of blue walkers looked magnificent, a chain of walkers four or five bodies wide and extending as far in front and behind as the eye could see, it was a sight to behold!

The whole event was excellently organised with marshals all along the way cheering us on. The inflatable start and finish line were surrounded by stalls and there were food wagons, there was an MC who got us all going before we set-off and cheered us all in as we returned.

As a team, over the next 12 months we are doing 10 challenges to celebrate 10 years in business and although the #MemoryWalk did not make it into our 10 challenges we wanted to show our support for such a great cause, particularly with this affecting a dear colleague.

This next weekend is the 3rd of our 10 challenges, the Colour Run at Harewood House, in aid of St Gemma’s Hospice, please donate using our Ascensor Just Giving Page.
